NEWPCC Tunnels and Shafts
J-Con performed scope of work:
- 23m Deep Shaft Excavation 30m diameter through Clay, Glacial Till and Limestone Bedrock.
- 3000mm FRP Tunnel Construction by Pipe-Jacking.
J-CON constructed up-skin assemblies to modify the TBM to accommodate 3000mm FRP piping. For this purpose, we used our in-house 3D CAD drafting, CNC steel production equipment, and CWB-certified welding shop. To efficiently load our tandems and end-dump semi-trailers directly with the significant volume of tunnel and shaft muck, we used J-CON’s 74-ton excavator equipped with our 25m telescopic stick and clamshell bucket. Tunnelling and shaft excavation were both successfully performed on a continuous 24-hour work schedule.
Cockburn Calrossie Combined Sewer Relief Works Contract 6A
Scope of work included:
- 230m 2100 FRP Pipejacked Tunnel Drive (First installation of FRP by Pipe-Jacked Tunnelling method in Manitoba, largest Pipe-Jacked Tunnel-drive by internal volume constructed by an MB-based contractor.)
- Installation of 3600mm x 3000mm precast underground structure.
- Installation of 900mm to 250mm lateral piping with trenchless methods, connections to trunk sewers and existing underground structures including field lamination of FRP.
- Relocation of existing utilities.
- Surface restoration of concrete roadways, curbs, sidewalks and related works.
Cockburn Calrossie Combined Sewer Relief Works Contract 12
Scope of work included 630 metres of tunnel via pipejacking, 883 metres of small diameter lateral piping by trenchless methods, 274 metres by open cut.
Cockburn Calrossie Combined Sewer Relief Works Contract 5A
On this project J-CON's scope of work consisted of the modification of the 1950mm combined sewer located the intersection of Harrow and Taylor Ave. This included the construction of a large temporary shored shaft excavation, temporary flow control, as well as the supply and installation of a large precast structure.

Ferry Road and Riverbend Combined Sewer Relief Contract 5 East Stage 1
J-CON performed this contract during the winter of 2016/2017 valued at approximately $1.9 million for the City of Winnipeg. Major components of work include:
- Construction of land drainage sewers ranging in size from 750mm to 1050mm diameter, by trenchless and open cut methods.
- Construction of a 1200mm diameter outfall into the Assiniboine River at Jae Eadie Park.
- Installation of new connections to existing catch basin and catch basin leads to new Land Drainage Sewer, abandonment of existing catch basin leads to combined sewers, and replacement of deteriorated catch basins.
North Kildonan Feedermain Connections and Valve Chambers
In 2016 J-CON completed this project valued at approximately $1 million for the City of Winnipeg. Project highlights included two cast in place concrete chambers and 24" water transmission piping in HDPE, PVC, Fusion coated steel, Ductile Iron, and PCCP materials. All major components of work were self performed in-house by J-CON including all structural concrete, excavation/backfill, mechanical works within the chambers and surface restoration.
